Watercolor series ''Deconstruction of the Human Figure through Watercolor Technique''
Project type
Watercolor Illustrations
Date
June, 2017
The series of watercolors Deconstruction of the Human Figure through Watercolor Technique was realized as a final examination project at the Faculty of Arts, for the course Book Design (Oprema knjige), in 2017. The work explores the process of deconstructing the human figure through watercolor as a painting technique, with a focus on the fragmentation of form, the loss of clear contours, and the transformation of the figure into expressive color structures.
By employing the inherent qualities of watercolor—transparency, layering, and controlled spontaneity—the human figure gradually disintegrates, shifting from a figurative representation toward a more abstract visual expression. This approach examines the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, as well as the relationship between form, movement, and negative space.
A special emphasis is placed on the book as an artistic and design medium, in which the watercolors are unified into an authorial publication. Through considered design, page sequencing, and the rhythm of the visual narrative, the book functions as an integral part of the artwork rather than merely its documentation.
The project brings together painterly research and book design into a cohesive whole, in which the form of the publication actively participates in the interpretation and experience of the content.
